I don’t know about you, but for me life is busy. I have children, a grandchild, pets and too many events and appointments to keep track of these days without a planner at my fingertips. I tend to spend so much time focusing on my children, that on occasion (okay, most of the time)I forget about me and my needs. Recently I had a pretty nasty stomach virus and had been just trying to get through the day without getting sick everywere. Finally I realized that I felt bad enough that a doctors visit was in order. Only problem? I didn’t have time. We had three different places we had to be all within a few hours and there was no extra time. Is there really a whole lot of extra time when you’re a mom?
So that evening during dinner, I remembered American Well (Amwell). I have used the service before. I love it! What if I told you that you could sit on your couch, or lounge in your bed and still see a doctor? Would you be able to find time then? I know I could!
And I did!
If you’ve got health questions, the doctors on American Well have answers, and all from the comfort of your own home and your OWN time! And according to Amwell, about half of doctors visits can be done online without being there in person. This has been a lifesaver in the past for me, so again I popped that app open faster than you can imagine. Forget dinner, I couldn’t eat anyway, I needed help!
Amwell is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting users with board-certified, licensed doctors for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop. Some general conditions Amwell doctors encounter include: minor illnesses and injuries, general health and wellness concerns, prescription refills, and chronic condition management. Amwell employs primary care and specialist physicians, as well as licensed behavioral therapists and registered dietitians, to meet their patients’ health and wellness needs. Amwell doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are dedicated to keeping you healthy — all from the comfort of your home.
The super cool part of this sevice, is that with your smartphone or computer, you can easily pull up the app or the website and log in. You can access board certified physicians practicing in the US. It was so easy to do!
There are so many situations where an in person doctors appointment is not necessary.
According to Amwell:
Here are a few reasons people go online to see a doctor:
- I feel like I should probably see a doctor, but can’t really fit it into my over-booked schedule.
- I’m flying tomorrow and can’t get out of work.
- It’s difficult for me to get a doctor’s appointment.
- I’m not sure if I should go to the ER or not.
- My doctor’s office is closed and I don’t want to go to an urgent care clinic or hospital
- I just moved and don’t know any doctors in my area.
- I just need a second opinion.
- I’m between jobs and have no coverage.
- I have a question about a loved-one’s health and would like some advice.
And here are some of the most common conditions that can be diagnosed and treated online:
- Sinus infection
- Sore throat
- Urinary tract infection
- Sprains and strains
- Respiratory Infection
- Weight concerns
- Smoking Cessation

See that spot for a Service Key? Would you like to try the service out for $1.00? 100 pennies? Yes, I can make that happen for you. Just use this code: TELEVISIT32 There is no obligation for you to continue using the service after this one time visit, but I would hope you will find it as convenient as I do, and want to continue. If your insurance covers it, it should be cheaper than what you pay now, for continued visits and if you don’t have insurance? It’s a MUCH cheaper resource.
Okay so you are ready to go!
Now the system is going to want to check your computer if you signed up via Amwell.com to see if your computer can handle a call that way. Your smartphone should already work if you signed up that way. After you are sure everything is working properly, it’s now time to find a doctor. What are you looking for?
Do you need a medical doctor? A diet and nutritionist? A psychologist? Yep, its all covered.
Click on the section you want and a list of doctors pops right up. You can see at a glance who is online, and if anyone is in front of you. Looks like I have someone in front of me here.
So now it’s time to tell Dr. Grandstaff what’s wrong with me and how I am feeling. At that point, I press continue and I’m on my way to feeling better soon, hopefully.
Now this is a feature I love. I really love that you can have someone else join the visit. This is great because my kids are often at events, school or even away at friends, and I can pull them into the visit if it’s about them. Like I said, when everyone is running in opposite directions and someone isn’t feeling well, Amwell really IS the answer!
You can click on Settings and add your children, your insurance, access FAQs and much more. It was all super easy and incredibly fast and I felt like I got a lot of information in a very short time. And quite honestly, I felt like I had his attention better than I normally do when I go into see my own physician. They don’t rush you through and that’s a big thing for me.
